A limiting belief is just that. A belief that you once had that no longer serves you and is currently limiting your potential. They aren’t by nature evil or nefarious. They are hardwired to keep you safe. But even with the best of intentions if gone unchecked, they can take us down.

Despite the fact that your mind might be doing its very best to make you believe right now that you are not enough, I am here to promise you that that is a lie.

Or let’s just say it’s an outdated message that served you when you were first starting out, because there was evidence that if you pushed harder you’d achieve more. And so you did push harder and you have achieved more. In fact you relied on it until it became a default way to inspire or motivate you to get where you are today.

But when the rush of going the extra mile or pulling an all-nighter just doesn’t feel good anymore and all you are left with is the thought, what do you do?

It’s simple.

Identify the thought. Give it a name if you like or think of the thought like an old friend you used to know rather than a dragon you have to slay.

Take a moment to remember when you first encountered this friend, and how they may have helped protect you from failing or embarrassment or to get through something difficult. Like a child, perhaps its language was crude and the message of “You aren’t enough” really was just a primitive way of encouragement; of saying I can help you get through this or you’ve got this keep going!”. And maybe you needed the help on the inside because you couldn’t find it elsewhere at the time but in any case, you don’t require it anymore. BTW Your friend will feel the need to scream even louder the more you start to question the old thought. But instead of trying to keep it out, take a moment to acknowledge the thought and invite it in. Thank your friend for their role they’ve played in helping you along the way.

“Thank you for helping me get this far but I’ve got this. I don't need you to help me motivate in this way anymore but I could really use your energy to help me in another way… and so on. Releasing energy and creating a new relationship with you friend.

A limiting belief is just that. A belief that you once had that no longer serves you and is currently limiting your potential. They aren’t by nature evil or nefarious. They are hardwired to keep you safe. But even with the best of intentions if gone unchecked, they can take us down. We all have them and the sooner you do an inventory check and rewrite their dialogue or recast their roles in your life, the more energy you will have to create a new script.

I’m Lisa Hopkins, stay safe and healthy everyone and remember to live in the moment.
