Let us know what you enjoy about the show!

Have you ever wondered if a gentle approach can truly be more powerful than force? Inspired by the wisdom of my 95-year-old mother-in-law, Anna, I explore the timeless fable of "The North Wind and the Sun," a story she recounts with such elegance and clarity. This episode promises to illuminate the enduring debate between power and persuasion, revealing how warmth and kindness can achieve outcomes that sheer force cannot. With Anna's remarkable memory and insight as a guiding light, this tale becomes a poignant reminder of the strength found in gentleness.

As we journey through this enchanting fable together, we're reminded of the power of kindness in our daily lives. Embrace the moral of this story, which teaches that gentle persuasion often triumphs where aggression and bluster fail. In today's world, where forceful tactics can seem pervasive, let's rediscover the transformative power of warmth and compassion. I'm Lisa Hopkins, encouraging you to stay safe, healthy, and to remember the importance of living in the moment. Sending love and light to all my dear listeners.

Speaker 1:

Hey there, today I just wanted to share a very short fable with you that was brought back to mind by my 95-year-old mother-in-law, who I'm very close with, who is spending some time here with us at our place, and she herself is so full of wisdom and can just rhyme off these things that she's committed to memory. A brilliant, brilliant woman. This one is for you, anna, and it's for all of you. I wanted to share it. She actually tells it better probably than I will when I read it to you, but I wanted to share it with you because it kind of really resonated with me. I think it's timely that she brought it up. So here we go.

Speaker 1:

It's called the North Wind and the Sun. The north wind and the sun had a quarrel about which one of them was the stronger. While they were disputing with much heat and bluster, a traveler passed along the road wrapped in a cloak. Let us agree, said the son that he is the stronger who can strip that traveler of his cloak. Very well, growled the north wind and at once sent a cold, howling blast against the traveler. With the first gust of wind, the ends of the cloak whipped about the traveler's body, but he immediately wrapped it closely around him, and the harder the wind blew, the tighter he held it to him. The north wind tore angrily at the cloak, but all his efforts were in vain.

Speaker 1:

Then the sun began to shine At first. The beams were gentle and in the pleasant warmth after the bitter cold of the north wind, the traveler unfastened his cloak and let it hang loosely from his shoulders. The sun's rays grew warmer and warmer and the man took off his cap and mopped his brow. And mopped his brow At last. He became so heated that he pulled off his cloak and, to escape the blazing sunshine, threw himself down in the welcome shade of a tree by the roadside. So sometimes it's not bluster and boldness and power and force, but gentleness and kind persuasion that wins where force and bluster fail. It's a great moral and one to remember. Sending lots of love and light to you, dear listeners. I'm Lisa Hopkins. Stay safe and healthy and remember to live in the moment.
