STOPTIME: Live in the Moment.
The Joy of Deliberate Wandering
Let us know what you enjoy about the show!
Freedom awaits just outside your front door. When was the last time you stepped out with absolutely no agenda, no timeline, and nowhere specific to be?
Wandering deliberately through life might be the most revolutionary act in our overscheduled world. This reflective exploration delves into how we've become prisoners of direction—constantly told where to go since childhood, whether it's to bed, to school, or to work. Even our precious leisure time hasn't escaped this conditioning, as we frantically plot the perfect vacation itinerary or reach for our phones the moment we feel slightly disoriented.
What magic are we missing in our rush to the next destination? As I share my experiences meandering through Manhattan's numbered streets, discovering hidden cafes on cobblestone pathways, and watching the world pass by from new vantage points, I invite you to consider the cost of always knowing where you're going. We've cornered ourselves into narrow thinking and default behaviors, avoiding the discomfort that comes with straying from the familiar.
Yet it's precisely in those unplanned moments that we find serendipity—that delightful companion who introduces us to new perspectives, broader horizons, and perhaps even our true selves. All it requires is a water bottle, comfortable shoes, and the courage to embrace the unknown. Your next adventure isn't on a map or a carefully curated itinerary; it's in allowing spontaneity to be your playground.
Take a moment today to look around, think again, and then unthink altogether. Simply be. The endless possibilities waiting for you might change everything. Will you accept the invitation to wander?

Hey there, one of my very favorite things to do is to deliberately wander, to stray from the norm, meander through the streets and allow for the day to unfold with no agenda. There's this immense freedom in stepping out the door with nothing to do and no one to do it with. It's unparalleled by any perfectly planned holiday or retreat and no expectations for myself or anyone else, completely untethered from calendar commitments Requiring nothing more than my water bottle and a good pair of walking shoes the ultimate me time. You know. I have wandered countless miles through the numbered streets of Manhattan in this way, discovering new things in my own stomping ground the wonder of stumbling upon a small cafe that I've never noticed before, neatly tucked away on a cobblestone street, inviting new perspectives as I idle for a while watching the world go by.
Speaker 1:As adults, we've come to fear the feeling of not knowing where we are going. It can be crippling to feel like you aren't where you think you are supposed to be. Since we were children, we've been told where to go Go to bed, go to school, go to work. Even our leisure time has been affected. Have you ever found yourself off the beaten path? And instead of tapping into your inner explorer, you automatically reach for your phone to help you figure out where you are. And so, with your head down, you let wonder pass you by In our never-ending quest to figure out where we are going and get there as fast as we can.
Speaker 1:What are we missing? We've cornered ourselves into narrow thinking and default behavior, avoiding the discomfort of straying or, dare I say, wandering from the familiar, the known or the expected. Avenues of new thinking await us if we just stop trying to get somewhere else all the time and take a moment to look around us at where we are right now, to think again and then to unthink altogether, to simply be, to allow spontaneity to be your playground, with serendipity as your new best friend. Wherever you are, my friend, I encourage you to indulge in deliberate wandering and open up your mind to the endless possibilities available to you just outside your front door. I'm Lisa Hopkins. Thanks so much for listening. Stay safe and healthy and remember to live in the moment.
